Thank you so much to Dusty, Lightyoruichi and Spinzer for the help!

I discovered this morning that somehow my themes were all showing their sidebar content in the footer instead of where they should be. As it was an error that spread across themes, I began to panic that I had messed up my Wordpress installation somehow. I had just installed the new Sail Away theme too and thought that was the cause.

Deleting it, of course, didn’t make a difference.

After my call for help went out on Twitter, Spinzer suggested that it could be a missing div, and I poked him on GTalk to troubleshoot further. He and Lightyoruichi both suggested that it could have been widgets-based.

While puttering around, Spinzer asked if I used code for my search box widget. It took me literally around 30 seconds to realise that it might not have been the widget, but that whole chunk of code I’d use for the Meme entry yesterday (now under Pending Review till I get the time to modify it).

I hid the entry, refreshed my main page, and.. VOILA! HELLO MY DEAR “REACH INTO YOUR SOUL” I MISSED YOU!

The lesson, kids, is NEVER, EVER, post code without reading through it carefully. I used to do this all the time but have gotten lazy in recent years.

At least I’m glad it wasn’t malware or anything. ~_~

Inspired by Joanna’s A Word to Last the Year post, here’s my word for 2010:

Tenaciously.

It was a word I discovered from Confident Writing sometime last year. Tenacity means, according to Oxford:

1. holding firmly to something.
2. persisting in existence or in a course of action.

My weakness has never been starting. It’s always been completion. Distractions figure too much in my life, and even with goals, I tend to drop personal projects once I’ve stopped being infatuated with them, even if the projects are uncompleted.

The main reason I give up so easily on such projects is writer’s block. Once I hit a writer’s block, I make token attempts at persisting, and if it works, it works. If it doesn’t, I put it away and promise to come back later.

Which rarely happens.

That’s why my word this year is tenacity. It’s sticking to finishing what I started, no matter how long it takes. No matter how dreary. No matter how much I want to curl up and die. No matter the bad days. No matter the good days.

Perseverance and Tenacity.

My blog, first and foremost, will always remain my home. It’s a messy home, meant for me. If you’ve dropped by, Hi. If you’re a friend, welcome.

From My Journal on Writing.Com, to Ramblings at Blogspot, to Broken Shield and Sword on Wordpress and finally my own domain, my blog has changed many names, but it has remained quintessentially, me. Like me, it’s a whimsical thing, with various attempts to keep focus and purposeful.

More than anything, it reminds me there are things to live for. It is a recorder of my days. A snapshot of my life. Origins will tell you part of the story.

Which is why, today, on a whim, this early morning of 3 August 2009, I decided to change the name of this blog. It’s a timely reminder, one that should have come earlier. I’d forgotten this song existed.

This is a testing post to confirm if Wordpress will crosspost to Dreamwidth which will then crosspost to LJ.

Looks like it works from Wordpress to Dreamwidth. Now from DW to LJ.

Edit 1: Hmm… after a bit of tinkering, it works from WP to DW. Mainly because I used the wrong domain extension for DW (hint: it’s .org, not not .com).

However, it looks like I have to enter manually from DW to post to LJ. Will be investigating this tonight when I get home. Geekery senses… tingling!

Edit 2: It seems that crossposting from WP to DW works (an error here and there is actually pretty misleading) but DW doesn’t allow you to post from DW to LJ automatically. And it seems that they might not introduce that anytime soon. Hmm…
